More than heat
Everyone knows a furnace heats a building. Few realize it is also needed to cool it well. Furnaces use natural gas or propane burners, which take up the top half of the unit; the bottom half is the blower, which moves heated or cooled air through the building. Burner capacity, blower capacity and efficiency are the three things that matter most when you install or replace one.
The industry standard for the Monroe and West Monroe climate is to hold 70 degrees inside when it is 20 degrees outside. Burners add heat, measured in BTUs, and range from about 45,000 to 110,000 BTUs an hour.
High efficiency saves money
There are two basic blower motors, standard and high efficiency. A high-efficiency blower motor uses about 50% less energy than a standard one. Gilley’s will lay out a range of options so you can make an informed decision, and there may be incentives to help.
